Digital implant planning is a key component of modern implantology. For the successful placement of dental restorations, it is crucial that implants are positioned precisely using digital processes. In our specialist clinic, accurate digital implant planning has been part of our daily practice for many years, ensuring that every implant we place can be optimally restored.
Before implantation, patients attend a so-called diagnostic appointment, during which we carry out advanced digital examinations. These allow us to create an exact 1:1 representation of the patient’s anatomy and plan the implantation virtually — even before the actual procedure takes place.
This method not only enables significantly improved implant positioning but also provides a much clearer view of any anatomical features such as nearby nerves, blood vessels, undercuts, and other structures before surgery begins.
As part of the diagnostic process, we produce a three-dimensional X-ray scan (digital volume tomography – DVT) along with a digital impression of the patient’s dentition using a high-resolution intraoral scanner.
Both datasets are then combined in specialised planning software (“matching”), allowing the implant or implants to be placed with pinpoint accuracy using a custom-made drilling guide produced in our in-house 3D printers.
This state-of-the-art procedure enables a level of precision during implantation that would otherwise be nearly impossible, while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety throughout the treatment.
